Project: Focus Group Competences for Democratic Culture

The Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) was adopted in 2017 and is setting standards for Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education in schools. For the NECE network DARE is organizing a focus group aiming to mainstream the framework, together with polis – The Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools and AdB – Association of German Educational Organisations.

Project SemiFit: Exchange on Quality of Education

SemiFit is a series of three seminars for intercultural trainers in Human Rights Education. DARE members and freelancing trainers selected through an open call met and shared their approaches and criteria for enhancing the quality of education regarding empowerment and civic  competencies of individuals.  They discussed the topic from three perspectives. First, the quality dimension regarding the individual trainer following the E.T.S. Second, the quality conditions in planning and managing cooperation between different partners in projects and programs. Third, the qualitative aspects perceived from the perspective of Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education

The exchange took place on December 1-6, 2018 in Almuñécar, Spain. It was supported by a funding of European Commission (Erasmus + programme).

For a Strong Citizens Participation Perspective in the New Rights and Values Programme (2021 -2027) – Oct 2018

The DARE network acknowledges the European Commission’s initiative to provide the possibility for bigger impact of the current Europe for Citizens programme by aligning it with the content-wise related Equality and Rights and Daphne programmes under the proposed new Rights and Values Programme (2021-2027).

The suggested title Citizens Engagement and Participation should be the guiding idea for the design of the new programme. Its aim should clearly go beyond being an information tool for interested citizens and contribute concretely to support the democratic engagement of citizens and civil society by providing them adequate support.

It aims to create a space for experienced trainers from different fields to exchange competences (VASK: Values, Attitudes, Skills, Knowledge) and experience on the different domains of intercultural trainings.

STEPS Project: Conference on Right-Wing Populism, Post-Factualism and Radicalisation

From 6-12 June 2018 the STEPS consortium and a wide range of  experts from the EDC/HRE and youth field met in Nafplio (Greece) to discuss the key findings of the STEPS project regarding right wing populism, post-factualism and radicalisation and its impact on EDC/HRE.

Project TEVIP: Transforming European Values into Practice

The project aimed to develop educational tools that allow to learn something about the so called “European Values”. What is a value and what makes it European? Seems to be an easy question, but while trying to answer, we realize that its actually more difficult the more we think about it. Especially this happens in a Europe, where a common understanding across the member states becomes even less feasible. Between 2017 and 2020 the #TEVIP partners worked on this question and developed educational tools.

STEPS Project – Survival Toolkit: Populism, radicalisation and the response of education

2017/2018 DARE members work on the question how education could respond on current political trends such as populism or post-truth. We discuss these issues from an organisational perpective, taking into account the shrinking spaces for civil society, but as well on the level of concrete pedagogical work.

Manual for Journalists from DARE member Human Rights Academy

The Human Rights Academy has launched an online manual on intercultural understanding, ethics and human rights to be used by teachers and students in journalism education. It is the result of a long-term partnership between departments of journalism education at universities in Norway, Russia and Sweden, and the Human Rights Academy, a DARE member from Norway.

This is an educational tool for teachers of journalism, media and communication who want to raise the students’ competence on issues related to diversity, intercultural understanding, human rights and ethics. The manual will also be useful for practising journalists, editors, other media workers and students.

Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe – DARE Network signed the JOINT DECLARATION ON ROMA INTEGRATION THROUGH EUROPE. One of Europe’s most vulnerable and discriminated groups should be supported and strengthened by a common effort. Therefore we welcome the EU framework for greater protection against racism and racial discrimination for Roma. Maybe your organization will sign the declaration as well?
