Compendium: The future of young people’s political participation: questions, challenges and opportunities

In the framework of the EU-CoE youth partnership DARE project manager Ramon Martinez and Laden Yurttagüler were publishing the Compendium on youth participation which is available as PDF for Download at the website of the youth partnership. It is giving insights in participation as a key topic for Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education and also showing practices from across Europe.

The compendium was developed after the symposium “The future of young people’s political participation: questions, challenges and opportunities” hosted by the European Youth Centre Strasbourg in September 2019.

Project Demogames: Taking democracy games very seriously

The second meeting of the project Democracy and Games: Analog and Digital Game-Based Learning Tools for Youth Work (2019-2-DE04-KA205-018330) was held in Zurich from the 14-th to the 15-th of February 2020 and brought together ten participants representing GIGA (German Institute of Global and Area Studies), Demokrative (Zurich), DARE Network, Intercultural Institute Timisoara, DA2 Trucados (Almunecar) and Culture Goes Europe (Erfurt).

EntreComp 360: Kick-off-meeting

On invitation of the project coordinator University of Iceland we were kicking off EntreComp360. During the next 3 years we will build a one stop shop platform for all Entrecomp related tools, practices, methodology, projects, and communities.

We bring together the information, guidance and support on developing civil engagement and entrepreneurship-related competences, based on the European competency framework EntreComp. It puts emphasis onto ideation and creativity, initiative and cooperation, pulling together different resources and mobilising people and teams.

Semifit: Blended Learning, Digital Transformation and Education for Active Citizenship

The third event of our project Semifit took place in Trento (IT) between October 14 and 20, 2019. The event was hosted by the project partner Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale. Among other topics related to Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education between analogue and digital a focus was set on blended learning. Furthermore the educators and researchers discussed how education might tackle the social, cultural, and economical issues related to digitization. The exchange between the educators and educational providers in the Semifit project is supported by the programme Erasmus+.

Project SemiFit: Seminar for intercultural trainers in Citizenship Education – May 2019

On invitation of DARE network and training center Kurt Löwenstein 25 trainers gathered for an intensive exchange on the question of quality in citizenship education. They shared approaches, tools and methods and reflected thoroughly about their experiences in different learning context.

Project SemiFit: Exchange on Quality of Education

SemiFit is a series of three seminars for intercultural trainers in Human Rights Education. DARE members and freelancing trainers selected through an open call met and shared their approaches and criteria for enhancing the quality of education regarding empowerment and civic  competencies of individuals.  They discussed the topic from three perspectives. First, the quality dimension regarding the individual trainer following the E.T.S. Second, the quality conditions in planning and managing cooperation between different partners in projects and programs. Third, the qualitative aspects perceived from the perspective of Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education

The exchange took place on December 1-6, 2018 in Almuñécar, Spain. It was supported by a funding of European Commission (Erasmus + programme).

Community-based School Programme to Reduce School Violence and Conflicts

In 2015, three organisations – Partners Hungary Foundation, Partners Bulgaria Foundation and SOS Malta – joined forces to launch a pilot project aimed at developing and testing a community-based school programme for effective prevention and treatment of aggression and bullying, based on alternative conflict resolution methods. The long-term goal of the project was to achieve cultural change in schools through the dissemination of nonviolent communication, the introduction of alternative conflict resolution practices, the prevention of bullying and school conflicts, and a decrease in aggressive and other risk-related behaviour. The research results in the pilot schools have shown that an important effect of the programme is related to an increase in respondents’ awareness.

A publication from the Competendo project: Why competency centred learning needs more promotion and what policy, school leadership and civil society can do to facilitate better learning conditions for youth in Europe.

The aim of these reflections and recommendations is to provide a proposal for strengthening competency oriented learning in the European systems and frameworks of education. Especially we broaden the perspective toward all kind of formal, non-formal and informal learning taking place in Europe and relevant for gaining the relevant competencies for acting as a successful citizen or professional, the so called key competencies.
