STEPS Project – Survival Toolkit: Populism, radicalisation and the response of education

2017/2018 DARE members work on the question how education could respond on current political trends such as populism or post-truth. We discuss these issues from an organisational perpective, taking into account the shrinking spaces for civil society, but as well on the level of concrete pedagogical work.

In 2017 we started with a kick-off meeting in June in Berlin (Germany) for identifying together the scope and challenges. In an advocacy and experts meeting in Alumecar (Spain) in November we identified the most recent developments in policy and society and discussed how to respond to them as a network. A meeting for trainers will follow in February 2018 in Potsdam (Germany) with a focus on qualitative and innovative methodology and didactical approaches. In June 2018 a toolkit training in Nafplio (Greece) will bring the different levels together and conceptualize the toolkit.

At the end will stand a collectively developed toolkit equipping facilitators and educational institutions conducting work with young people in non-formal and partially formal education with inspiration and tools for dealing with post-factualism, populism and radicalisation.
